!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is getting his parents old CLK550. Looks kinda like this:
With these awful wheels:
Here is blurry screen shot I took from the video his dad took to send him before the car got loaded onto the truck:
We’re not certain what size is on there now, but these are my favortie:
Believe they came off of an E63. He doesn’t like the rims on it now, so what would you replace them with?
(If you’re wondering why I’m posting this and not him it’s because I generally post more here and also because I’m super bored.)
Update (because for some reason this appeared on the sidebar):
These are what he went with, 22 spoke AMG wheels off a SL55 AMG.

At the very least, trade then for unchromed split spokes.

The only correct answer, even if not steel.

What are those? HREs?

He can just google it, it’ll help him find out what size wheels would fit. Especially if he wants to go to 18" and ditch the 17"s.

Yes they look like FF01's but its hard to tell with HRE. The flow form wheels from HRE are the only ones that are reasonably priced.
I was more referring to the “CSL style” of wheel. Every time I get a set of wheels for a car, it’s those or a very similar design. I can’t stop myself.

Are they actually steel wheels? Looks like these painted black.

CSL style wheels are the TE-37 of the Euro luxury world?

In general, maybe look for V8 or V12 S class wheels? They will be larger with distinctive styling. A clean set of 18 or 19" merc wheels will be $1500+ though and at that point I’d probably just go custom via a brand like 3SDM

Ah, I wish I was getting a free CLK550. Does your friend have to pay for insurance and maintenance?

The 1st gen CLK V8s and AMG packages came with 18" staggered mono block Hammers. Always a nice look for a Merc. My suggestion is similar but moving into the future.
Rotiform comes to mind. Simple, clean, and understated.

Most anything would look better than what is currently on it. The bright shiny wheels remind me of all the horrible bright shiny Chevy wheels. Mercedes has tons of good looking wheels it was a little overwhelming trying to pick one.

Yep. This. Or Monoblocks. Monoblocks always look right.

Are those SUV wheels? Not sure how I feel about mono-blocks on it, he does like them though.

Put some nice multi-spoke wheels on it, not-chome obviously. Try to get as close to the ones from the CLK63 Black Series wheels as they can: those are the best looking wheels for that body style. They’re sophisticated and refined while also being sporty and aggressive. It’s just perfection.
The old school grey-with-a-sliver-rim AMG wheels (or look alike) are also fantastic on this body style. A little more classic. These ones have bead-locks but they don’t all have those (it was hard to find another photo).

Too bad a set of those is like 4k+, I agree I really like those.

I added a second suggestion for ones that may be a little bit cheaper. Maybe they could get a used set in great condition for around $2k but they’re really, really high quality.
The wheels from the W220 S65 and R230 SL63 are absolutely awesome and look great on the CLK. Gives a very unique look while looking like OEM Mercedes. I edited my last comment with pictures of them on a CLK convertible.

Those do look really good. I think AMG has some of the best looking OEM wheels out of everyone.
